The Weeknd attends “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between” Costume Institute Gala at Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 1, 2017 in New York City.
The artist was one of the best blinged at Monday’s event with a museum-worthy Cartier diamond brooch and other pieces by the French jeweler
As one half of the evening’s best-dressed couple at the Met Gala, The Weeknd also held his own Monday night, sartorially speaking. The singer (née Abel Tesfaye) looked incredibly dapper in his classic black satin shawl-collar tuxedo, custom made for him by Valentino and complete with a silk bow tie and patent leather tuxedo shoes. But a closer look at the singer’s accessories, courtesy of Cartier, reveals that he may have had some of the best jewelry of the night.
On his lapel, Tesfaye sported a diamond and yellow sapphire pin from the Cartier Collection, a group of jewels that the Paris jewelry maison reserves only for red carpet appearances and museum exhibitions. The flower clip brooch—originally designed for a woman—was made at Cartier’s Paris workshops in 1962 as a special order piece and features a 12.49-carat octagonal emerald cut yellow sapphire in the center. The singer paired the brooch with a vintage diamond stud set, also from Cartier, that dates back to 1925 and a diamond, ceramic and gold Maillon Panthère ring from the French brand.
While this wasn’t The Weeknd’s first Met Gala appearance—and certainly not his first as a couple—his look at this year’s event, courtesy of stylist Matthew Henson, is one of his best ever.
